In one of the most punishing environments on earth, where oxygen is in short supply, Håkon Erlandsen (a.k.a. the Jazzathlete), a young musician from Norway struggles to get a sound out of his saxophone. Though his muscles are aching, his vision blurry, and the voices in his head are telling him to turn back, he nonetheless proceeds to give a concert at nearly 7000 meters above sea level – the highest altitude concert ever staged on land. Yet there are six more musical performances planned, all of which will take place on top of the highest peaks of each of the planet’s seven continents, including the highest mountain in the world: Mt Everest.

THE MAN

 From his earliest years, Håkon decided that nobody would stand in the way of achieving his dreams or visions. “Living in the moment” is a central catchphrase in the Jazzathlete’s life. Go where your passion takes you. Less Human, more being.

THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES

Chasing Summits: A Musical Ascension will be a product that combines some of the most beautiful things in our world — music, culture, nature, images, people and global diversity — all in one documentary series for the international market. 

THE MUSIC

A central aspect of this project is the music, which functions as the main language for describing the emotions and reactions upon reaching each summit. Each summit’s composition will be directly inspired by the visual impressions made throughout the journey.

THE SUMMITS

The Seven Summits is a well known international challenge. First achieved  in 1985, this is a quest every adventurer strives to complete. One of Håkon’s goals is to beat the Norwegian record, which is currently held by Torkjel Hurtig who completed all seven in 1055 days.
